ELIAS WILSON

Tenor Elias Wilson is a Biripi man and emerging performer of opera, chamber music and oratorio.

Since 2021 Elias has appeared on the opera stage with Pinchgut Opera (Cavalli’s The Loves of Apollo & Dafne), NIDA (Lysander in Britten’s A Midsummer Nights Dream) and Pacific Opera (Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore).  His previous credits include La Rainette in Ravel’s LEnfant et les Sortileges (Sydney Conservatorium), Satyavān in Gustav Holst’s vitri (The Cooperative), and in full drag as Madame de la Haltière in Massenet’s Cendrillon (Sydney Conservatorium).

In demand as chamber and oratorio performer, Elias has appeared regularly since 2018 as an associate artist with The Song Company, and in 2022 Elias travelled to Darwin to perform the tenor solo in Handel’s Messiah with conductor Brett Weymark OAM.  Elias appears regularly with the choirs of St James King Street and St Paul’s College and has recorded for ABC Classic under the direction of Tamara-Anna Cislowska as part of Luminescence Chamber Singers.

Elias holds a Master of Music Studies (Opera Performance) and a Bachelor of Music Studies (Classical Voice) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. During his studies Elias was supported by the Donald Lionel Egerton Scholarship, and the Helpmann Family Fellowship. While studying, a Vice Chancellor’s Mobility Scholarship enabled Elias to travel to Hangzhou, China, where he performed excerpts by Puccini and Bernstein in recital. Following his graduation, Elias was awarded the 2022 Harold Blair Opera Scholarship for indigenous opera singers by Melba Opera Trust.

In October 2023 Elias makes his principal artist debut with Victorian Opera as Gary in new opera The Visitors.
