ERIN SWEETMAN
Erin Sweetman holds a Bachelor of Music from the Newcastle Conservatorium with First Class Honours, and has achieved the Licentiate and Associate Diploma of Music in both Piano and Clarinet with distinction.
As soloist and accompanist, Erin has toured nationally and internationally. She performed in the Newcastle Music Festival from 2016 – 2019, and the Newcastle Art Gallery Concert series. Since 2012, Erin has accompanied the award-winning ensemble, Hunter Singers, and has accompanied the choir at international choral festivals and performances, including the Llangollen International Eisteddfod and the World Choir Games in Cincinnati. Erin accompanied the Hunter Singers for their Classic FM Live recital. Erin also accompanies the University of Newcastle Choir.
In 2016, Erin attended the Music Director Intensive at Goodspeed Opera House in New York. Later that year, Erin recorded an album with cellist Anthea Scott-Mitchell, Into the Silence.
Erin is currently a member of staff at St Francis Xavier’s College, Hamilton. She has experienced success in the classroom with many students achieving outstanding results in HSC Music 1, Music 2 and Extension. Erin also continues to teach piano students in her own studio.
In 2021, Erin performed in the 1:1 concert series that was held in Newcastle and Maitland (MRAG). This was an international response and fundraiser to help support musicians that had been impacted due to loss of income following the Covid-19 pandemic. Erin also performed in the musical CHESS at the Civic Theatre in February, 2021.
Most recently, Erin performed for the Newcastle Writers Festival. Erin took to the stage with author Julia Baird and cellist Anthea Scott-Mitchell. She performed works selected by Julia to follow readings from her book “Phosphorescence”.
Erin performed as soloist for recitals in the Maitland Heritage Festival in 2021 and 2022. Later this year, Erin plans to record another album with Anthea Scott-Mitchell.
Erin accompanied Susan Collins in Beethoven’s demanding Kreutzer Sonata for piano and violin in the 2022 Newcastle Music Festival, to great acclaim.
