HOURGLASS ENSEMBLE

Hourglass Ensemble is a contemporary chamber music group based in Sydney, Australia, and regularly plays all around our wide brown land, including the Sydney Opera House. The are champions of Australian composers and new works, and their mission is to commission, premiere, promote, record, and tour Aussie classical music. In this concert, the group explores works by two USA based composers, and delves into the nineteenth century with Brahms trio for clarinet, piano and cello, showcasing the talents of two of the group’s key players, Andrew Kennedy and Anna Rutkowska-Schock.
he philosophy behind the Hourglass Ensemble is that “every musician is a storyteller and the sound itself must at all times be beautiful” says founder Andrew Kennedy.
“The other main philosophy of the Hourglass Ensemble is a spirit of connectedness with each other. It’s quite easy to achieve this because I pick people I admire and get along well with – those who work constructively together and enjoy a good laugh!”
