TRISTAN ENTWISTLE

Tristan Entwistle completed his Masters of Music Studies (Opera Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium in 2017, where he was awarded the Bud Brown Memorial and Patricia Lucas Music Achievement Scholarships. With a keen interest in modern music, Tristan has performed in a number of Australian premieres, including Luzifers Tanz (Stockhausen), Mansfield Park (Dove), and Chang’E and the Moon (Fox).

Tristan’s opera/operetta roles include Figaro (Le Nozze Di Figaro), Il Conte (Le Nozze Di Figaro), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Leporello (Don Giovanni), Nardo (La Finta Giardiniera), Escamillo (Carmen), Barone Douphol (La Traviata), Dottor Grenvil (La Traviata), Dr Falke (Die Fledermaus), Elder McLean (Susannah), Edmund Bertram (Mansfield Park), Giove (La Calisto), the Drunken Poet/Corydon (The Fairy Queen), Alcindoro (La Bohème), Giuseppe Palmieri (The Gondoliers) and the Pirate King (The Pirates of Penzance).

Tristan was a founding member of the Sydney-based youth opera company Operantics, with whom he has worked as a music director (Così fan tutte, The Telephone, Gentleman’s Island), stage director (The Telephone, Gentleman’s Island) and chorusmaster (Matthäuspassion). He has performed regularly in Newcastle with Opera Hunter, earning CONDA Awards for his performances of Leporello (Best Male Supporting Actor, 2017) and the Pirate King (Best Male Lead Actor in a Musical, 2018). He will perform the role of Germont in La Traviata with Opera Hunter in July 2021.

Tristan was a finalist in the 2017 German Australian Opera Grant, in the 2018 IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition (“The Mathy”), and in the 2019 Joan Carden award. He has been a regular performer with the chorus of Opera Australia, and this year has stepped into the role of Figaro in the NSW schools touring production of The Barber of Seville.
