SUSAN COLLINS PLAYS BACH BY DARK

Wednesday August 3, 7.30pm, Christ Church Cathedral

Susan Collins (violin)

Experience the rapturous sounds of Bach performed by Susan Collins on violin in the hushed darkness and spellbinding atmosphere of the Cathedral. Susan, one of Australia’s finest violinists, will perform Bach’s Partita No. 2, concluding with the famous Chaconne.

Yehudi Menuhin called the Chaconne “the greatest structure for solo violin that exists”, and violinist Joshua Bell has said the Chaconne is “not just one of the greatest pieces of music ever written, but one of the greatest achievements of any man in history. It’s a spiritually powerful piece, emotionally powerful, structurally perfect.” It’s the piece that which always makes listeners wonder just how many violins are being played, and then you realise… just one.
